Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel announced that he was hosting the Oscars. As I said in my top 10 Oscar host post, Kimmel was one of the people on the Academy’s short-list (or, more specifically, on ABC’s short-list). Now, he hosted the Emmys this year and did a pretty decent job, and I like his show. However, my late-night loyalties tend to be with Colbert, Meyers, and Noah. In my top 10 potential host list, I gave you my picks on my top ten list and why the Academy should and should not hire each. So, here is the pros & cons about Kimmel hosting.
Pro: Jimmy Kimmel Live is on ABC. And, the Oscars ceremony is on ABC which allows for a lot of cross-promotion.
Con: Jimmy Kimmel’s show is in third place in the time slot. Now, you might not think that’s a bad thing, but keep in mind that there are only 3 major networks that air late-night shows (NBC, CBS, ABC).
Pro: He is an experienced awards show host. He’s hosted the Emmys twice and the American Music Awards a couple of times.
Con: The Emmys this year were one of the worst rated Emmy shows in recent memory.
So, whether you like him or hate him, Kimmel will be hosting the 89th Academy Awards. In
conclusion, I think he will do a decent job. Goodnight, and Bee Happy!™
