For
those of you that don't know, the 72nd
annual Golden Globe Awards Show wrapped up last Sunday, January 11th
at around 11:02 pm (Not too bad running 2 minutes over- If it were
the Oscars it would have run ½ to an hour over). Now let's get on to
the ceremony . It was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for the 3rd
consecutive year. They did a wonderful job, as always, but I think
they were cleaner than in previous years (somebody get back Ricky
Gervais) (I know, I know, his jokes are kind of risque). Tina and Amy
did make some political jests, some of which were very funny (but try
to stay out of politics at award shows). Enough said. If you have
read my award season nomination blog you will know that I had
predicted that “Birdman” and “The Theory of Everything” would
sweep all the awards, but I was wrong! Now, granted Michael Keaton
did win for best Actor for Comedy or Musicals and “Birdman” also
won for best screenplay and the “Theory of Everything” won for
Eddy Redmaynes performance. I could have sworn that best director
would have gone to “Birdman,” but instead, it went to “The
Grand Budapest Hotel” which also won for Best picture Musical or
Comedy. Best picture Drama went to “Boyhood” and for best
animated feature, I did predict the Lego movie but it did not win,
instead, it went to “How to Train Your Dragon II.” Granted, I
would have be surprised about this except that “Dragon II” was my
runner up prediction. This is great news for DreamWorks Animation,
after all this company is going 6 feet into bankruptcy. If “Dragon
II” can win the Oscar, it will get DreamWorks Animation well out of
bankruptcy (now I am writing this before the Oscar nominations are
announced so if “Dragon II” mysteriously does not get nominated –
don't hold it against me). Since I am on the subject of Oscars, I
would like to give you an early prediction on what movies I think
will be going to the Oscars. Granted, I think “Birdman” not
winning best picture musical or comedy, will actually decrease its
chances of winning the coveted Oscar and the same goes for “The
Theory of Everything.”
As
for “Boyhood” and The “Grand Budapest Hotel,” winning here at
the Golden Globes actually increases their chances of winning an
Oscar. Thanks for joining me for my review of The Golden Globe
Awards, I will have more award season coverage all through the months
of Jan and Feb. Join me next time for my opinion on the Oscar
nominees and my review of the Critics Choice Movie Awards. There is
still time to get a movie submitted for my end of the year poll.
