For those of you who don’t know, last Sunday (January 8), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association held the 74th Golden Globe Awards. The Awards gala was hosted by The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, and he, as per usual, was really awkward. But, that’s not to say that he didn’t have his moments. The best part of the ceremony was Meryl Streep making a political statemet. I am not going to go into detail (because I don’t want hate mail). Let’s get to the winners
Best Picture (drama) - Moonlight
Best Actor (drama) - Casey Affleck: Manchester by the Sea
Best Actress (drama) - Isabelle Huppert: Elle (one of the big surprises of the night)
Best Animated Picture - Zootopia
Best Supporting Actor - Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Nocturnal Animals (one of the big
surprises of the night)
Best Supporting Actress - Viola Davis: Fences (not for Hidden Fences)
Best Screenplay: La La Land
Best Director: Damien Chazelle (La La Land)
Best Actress (Musical or Comedy): Emma Stone: La La Land
Best Actor (Musical or Comedy): Ryan Gosling: La La Land
The BAFTAs announced their nominations a few days after the Goldan Globes and La La land swept the nominations by getting 11 nominations. Second was Arrival with 9 (great news for it’s awards chances). Third was Manchester By the Sea, and if you’re wondering where Moonlight fits in, it only got a measly 2. By the way, La La Land will sweep the awards. It may not win 11 but it will come really close. And as for best animated feature, Finding Dory got a nomination so it’s great news for its Oscar chances (Just a little note, I got a “for your consideration” email recently that said, “FInding Dory for your consideration for Academy Awards Best Animated Feature”. Well, the Oscar nominations will be announced this coming Tuesday (January 24). And, given that when the Academy was still voting when the Globes and the BASTAs were announced, these could have a serious affect on who can get nominated for the Oscars. Remember, there is still time to submit a movie for my end of the year poll. Goodnight, and Bee Happy!™
