Welcome
to this 11 month anniversary of Mr. Bee's Brilliant Movie Buzz! Yes,
my blog will be one year old next month, and to celebrate it you are
going to be getting two Land Before Time reviews, two weeks in a row.
This first one is, what you're reading right now; the second one
will be posted some time next week. In August I have good news and
bad news: there won't be a Land Before Time review (and the bad news
for you, but good news for me because I don't have to watch one of
those movies in August!). Seriously though, I am going to do a
special blog in August to commemorate my one year anniversary! But
to the movie at hand...
Background
This
movie was directed by Charles
Grosvenor who also directed the last movie in the series. It was
released in 1998 (my birthday year in fact). And that's about all
the facts I can find.
Plot
This
movie is roughly about how 5 heroes (Little Foot, Cera, Ducky,
Petrie, and Spike) were told a story by Granpa Longneck around a
campfire. The story is about the Lone Dinosaur and Saurus Rock. The
5 heroes meet a dinosaur, named Doc, who had seen a lot and he also
saved Little Foot. Little Foot came up with the idea that Doc is the
“lone dinosaur.”
Opinion
You
may have noticed that the plot sounds like a three year old wrote it,
and that is not my doing. It's not because I wrote the summary
wrong, it's because I think they really did have “three year
olds”write this plot! The story is utterly predictable and none of
the characters are memorable. The voice acting is bad; Marion Flynn
who voices Grandma Long Neck, was in her mid 40's when she did the
part, and sounds a bit too young to be voicing it; but she is one of
the few voice actors in this movie that does an ok job, given the
material. I can't help but think that they could have hired an older
actress or that she should have used an older voice for the part. As
for the animation, as I said before, it seems to be getting worse and
worse with every single entry. I like how they included excerpts
from the score of the first movie,(which is the only thing that is
connecting the sequels to the first movie). The songs are terrible
especially when Jeff Bennett (voice of Petrie and Spike) sings as
Petrie-- it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. I would rather listen
to a Justin Bieber song than listen to one of these songs again. I
don't know which is worse the fourth movie or this one, and that is
why I am giving the Land Before Time VI the Golden Garbage Can
Award.
