"GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY"

Welcome to this special review of Guardians of The Galaxy . This Marvel Action Sci-Fi movie, which I saw on Veterans day 2014 about 2 weeks ago today, and I am now here to review. Before I get into this, I am going to get a little bit off topic by congratulating all of the Peoples Choice Awards nominees and Jay Leno for winning the Mark Twain prize for American humor.
BACKGROUND
Now for this background: since I didn't have too much time to research this, I am going to tell you what people were thinking about this movie before it was released. This was a major major risk for Marvel and Disney because it's an unknown property. For you to understand why this was such a big risk for Marvel, “Who here reading this post has ever picked up a Guardians of the Galaxy Comic Book??” (Leave a comment down below).

A lot of people were skeptical of Marvel's decision so they needed to set it up in an end credits scene in Thor: The Dark World and Captain America The Winter Soldier. Apparently, they did not do it in Thor, but did it in Captain America. I don't know as a fact as I have not yet seen either of the movies (but of course I have seen Guardians of the Galaxy). Many people thought that setting it up in one film and not the other was a wrong move right before Guardians of the Galaxy was released, but all their fears were laid to rest when this movie was released on August 1st 2014.

PLOT

Since the movie has not been released onto DVD yet , I am not going to give away too much of the plot .

Anyway, it is about Star-Lord AKA Peter Quill played by Chris Pratt and Gamora, played by Zoe Saldona. Along with Drax the Destroyer, played by Dave Bautista, Groot, voice acting by Vin Diesel, and Rocket Raccoon, voice acting by Bradley Cooper (did I mention that these are all outlaws?) Anyway they must all join together to fight Ronan the Accuser, played by Lee Pace. That is the basic premise of this movie. (stay until the end of the credits because you might see a certain duck from a little bad movie that you may have seen.)

OPINION
Now let's get the bad stuff out of the way first, the plot is kind of weak partly because it is full of
cliches- for example, how a group of outlaws must join together to fight off a bad guy, (we have seen this a million times.) Okay, now for the good stuff,
even though the plot is kind of weak the writing is really well done and the acting is superb.

The movie currently has a 90% critics rating and 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. About two weeks ago, on November 14th it won a Hollywood Film Award. Now I am proud to rate this movie with a 4 out of 5 stars, a good movie!

Now I know some of you are waiting for my review of The Land Before Time III but, unfortunately due to my busy schedule I will not be able to post it until February. I hope you enjoy some of my bonus reviews to hold you over until February. So from all of us here at Mr. Bee's Brilliant Movie Buzz, have a Happy Thanksgiving.

" The 18th Annual Hollywood Film Awards"

For those of you that don't know the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards took place last Friday at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood California and it aired live on CBS . I would like to point out that it was the first time the Hollywood Awards were broadcast on TV. Now I am here to give my opinion on the ceremony.

Before you go on to the comment section about this, I am not going to comment on what people were wearing! There were a lot of pretty dresses and all of the men looked nice except for Johnny Depp, but I will get into that later.

The Awards Gala was hosted by Queen Latifah and I would like to point out that I tuned on the TV a little late so I missed her monologue, but judging from what I saw in the rest of the ceremony, she was bad as a host. This is one Queen that needs to get out of power! As for the acceptance speeches, all of them were pretty good. The most emotional was Shailene Woodley (here is a link ). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JwkckeBwaM&list=UUlzCn8DxRSCuMFv_WfzkcrQ

The funniest one was Chris Rocks (here is a link) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee7Hcs8XB3E&list=UUlzCn8DxRSCuMFv_WfzkcrQ
As for the presenters , most of them did a pretty good job . Right now I am wondering, does the teleprompter ever work right? A noteworthy example of this was John Travolta when he messed up Idena Menzel's name calling her “Adele Menzine” at the Oscars earlier this year, (of course he might have been drunk, take your pick). What happened this time is that Jennifer Lopez messed up How To Train Your Dragon II and called it “How to Drain our Dragon” although she recovered from it beautifully (this has nothing to do with her looks, but she does look nice). Gerard Butler made a joke about it in his acceptance speech ( here is a link) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXgcYLFkEjc

And Johnny Depp, “were you tipping the bottle”? I'm sorry, but he was obviously appeared drunk! He was taking his role in Pirates of the Caribbean a little too seriously because he looked like a pirate! (here is a link) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CBsBvT_D3E&list=PLBS34APvqtnE9_-fAsSCtQBAoCfaRSWf6

Now traditionally, the Hollywood Awards marks the beginning of Award season, but as for which movies will be going to the Oscars, it's a bit too early to tell (a lot of them have not even been released yet). I think though that “The Fault in Our Stars” definitely has a shot and “Gone Girl” definitely has a shot. Don't expect Neil Patrick Harris to win an Oscar this year because he is hosting. How to Train Your Dragon II has a shot in the animation category.
I am rating the ceremony as a whole with 3 and 1/2 stars. It's above average.

The Death of The Oscars 2014

For those of you that do not know , the Academy of Motion Pictures , Arts , and Sciences held their 6th annual Governors Awards on Saturday. For more about the honorees and whatnot , you can check out a previous blog I did when they were announced. If you have read it , you would know that I mentioned that I would do a review on it if it was done live-streamed . Well that is what I am here to talk about today. Now it turns out that this was not the case. It was was instead live-blogged , now I bet you can tell that I didn't like this because I referred to this as the “ Death of the Oscars 2014”. Part of the problem with a live blog is that they are basically saying that we only care about the people in the industry. When they do an event like this live-streamed , they are saying “ this is not televised ,but you may see the ceremony live. I stayed up (all of the night) to see the ceremony and let me tell you, the live- blog was, in my opinion, garbage. Half of the night they were showing us photos of what they were eating. If you really want to see what they were eating you can watch the cooking channel where you can see how they make the dishes. One time they even showed a picture of the DJ , but I don't think there was anybody the next morning who talked what the DJ was wearing. Before you go into the comment section and say that a live-blog is easier to do, may I remind you that the Academy is a professional organization. I will also add that any amateur can do a live-stream (even I could, if I so desired). In my opinion the Academy is a bunch of bumbling idiots for doing such a thing as this. I feel this is totally disrespectful to the Artists that were honored that night! Now if the Academy asked me if I wanted to receive an honorary Oscar , I would tell them pure and simple “NO,” except if the ceremony is live-streamed or televised. Better yet they could put the awards back in the actual Oscar ceremony, otherwise I will tell the Academy that I will be home watching SNL. Now for the lighter side of things; I could tell by the clips, which they posted on YouTube the next day, that it was a very good ceremony. It still; however, does not shy away from the disgrace to the Academy and everybody that was involved in the 2014 Governors Award . Neil Patrick Harris , you have a lot of work to do after the Academy held the disaster, that was the 6th annual Governors Award.
